Report reaching us is that Nigerians residing in areas as; Krugersdorp, near Johnannesnurg, Rustenburg, and Durban have been attacked by South-Africans and about seven people are feared died, several properties destroyed; including houses, shops and other properties belonging to Nigerians in these areas mentioned above.
The Ward Chairman of Nigerian Union in Krugersdorp Mr. Cyril James, said that attacks began on January 18 against Nigerians.
Mr Cyril reported that the violence against Nigerians was based on the allegations by the mob; 'A Nigerian abducted a South-African girl and raped her. He while narrating their ordeal said 'The South-Africans attacked our homes and shops, destroyed all we had, injured many of us and are regrouping to execute another attack on us, hence we flew our homes. He also urged the Nigerian Missions to urgently intervene to avoid any further killing.
The President of the Union confirmed the attack 'I can confirm that Nigerians in these areas have been attacked. I am amazed and emotionally down as calls from Nigerians kept flooding my Phone from various provinces.
He called on South African' government to come to their aid.
Olubajo recounted incidents of similar attack that occurred Two weeks ago by Taxi Drivers of the North West Province, he lamented that over five shops where burnt down as a result.
According to him the drivers alleged that a Nigerian sold drug to a gang that attacked their member and also that a Nigerian raped a 16-year old South African girl.
The Union have debased the argument stating that no Nigerian has been arrested for either rape or any related drug offence.
